Asking Questions about Black Disenfranchment - can get you arrested, and tased

Don't Tase Me Bro!

Maybe there is a reason why some whites are scared to ask questions of Democrats regarding the failure of government to address issues of concern of black folks. Take for an example the Florida student, Andrew Meyer, 21, who recently asked questions of John Kerry a former Anti-War activist regarding Black Voter Disenfranchising. Check out how John Kerry continues to talk as the student gets tassed for asking questions regarding black voter suppression and his membership in skull and bones. Major media like MSNBC covered the issue of how police officers pulled Meyer away from the microphone after he asked Kerry about impeaching President Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University - failing to comment about the black voter issue. Citizen reporters with cell phone and video cameras were able to get pictures of the incident from every angle.

MSNBC reports Meyer was arrested on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace, according to Alachua County jail records, but the State Attorney’s Office had yet to make the formal charging decision. Police recommended charges of resisting arrest with violence, a felony, and disturbing the peace and interfering with school administrative functions, a misdemeanor.

Kerry speaks out

MSNBC also reports Kerry said Tuesday he regretted that a healthy discussion was interrupted and that he never had a dialogue end that way in 37 years of public appearances. He also said he hoped neither the student nor police were injured.

“Whatever happened, the police had a reason, had made their decision that there was something they needed to do. Then it’s a law enforcement issue, not mine,” he told The Associated Press in Washington.

WTF, I gave a significant (maximum allowable) contribution to the Kerry Campaign. His failure to answer the questions of this college student, his failure to get elected, his poor campaigning style, and his failure to show integrity in this situation makes me want to say: "John Kerry, Give me my 2004 Presidential Campaign Contribution back."

Hell, maybe back in the day, when John Kerry went before Congress, as a Anti War Veteran, maybe he should have been tasered (although the technology was not available at that time) by Capitol Police.

Then, maybe, just maybe, he would think differently when a student like Myers get his Freedom of Speech Rights taken away, John Kerry would have the guts to speak up. And ask the officers to stop!

But why should John Kerry ask police to stop, and let the student continue with his questions? He would have to talk about the critical question asked by Myers, the issue black folks right to vote, to a group of white Florida students.

Chilling Impact

I guess this incident will have a chilling impact on liberal whites speaking out against the violation of the rights of blacks in this country. What do you think?

The Sulfur Smell of John McCain

Crossposted from Left Toon Lane, Bilerico Project & My Left Wing

Meet The Press is hard enough to watch with Tim Russert asking pointless questions, but yesterday's show was brutally painful, mostly due to the appearance of John "Baghdad Walkabout" McCain.

From the transcript:

SEN. McCAIN: ...I hope that we will have the patience and the understanding on the part of the American people that they’ve made great sacrifice and all of us are saddened by it. But I hope we can also point out the consequences of failure, which is what the Democrats are proposing now.

SEN. KERRY: Listen to that. You just said the Democrats are proposing failure. We’ve had...

SEN. McCAIN: Yeah. (Unintelligible)...failure.

SEN. KERRY: ...four and a half years of failure. The Republicans stood up and cheered for Rumsfeld, who had a policy of not enough troops. To his credit, John at least said he needs more troops. But the fact is they’ve supported every step of this president, misleading America about the course of this war. Last January the president stood up to Americans. You know what he said, Tim? He said, “We will hold them accountable to their benchmarks.” They’re not holding them accountable. They have no means of holding them accountable because they’ve said we’re going to stay there with 130,000 troops into next summer. They have no leverage.

We are not proposing failure, as John loves to assert and Republicans loves to assert. We are proposing a way to strengthen America in the region. We’re proposing a way to, in fact, make Iraq successful to the degree that it can be by playing to the real undercurrents of their, of their cultural and historical divisions. Nothing in the surge addresses the question of Shia, Sunni divide. Nothing in the surge is going to resolve the fundamental reluctance of Iraqi politicians to make a decision, Tim.

Now, we’re not talking about abandoning the place. Why do the Republicans have a complete inability to envision a foreign policy, as we used to have, Republican and Democrat alike, which plays to our strengths and builds alliances with other countries? Bring the United Nations back in. Bring the neighbors into this. Have a standing summit in a standing conference where we resolve these differences as best as can be. The United States can’t do it alone. And we have to change the equation so we regain leverage and initiative. That’s not walking away, that’s walking forward and putting us in a stronger posture.

No where in the show does McCain offer any hint, solution, idea or Divine Jesus-Speak of a way for us to get out of Iraq. McCain and the GOP are constipated and can't think of any other idea other than to stay on the pot and hope everything comes out OK.

You know, like Saigon.

From the candidates

These links provided as a public service, because you shouldn't have to shop at Blogmart to hear from the candidates.

From the Obama campaign, by Joe Rospars: Our MySpace Experiment

From the Edwards' campaign, Watch the ad: We the people by Tracy Russo

From JohnKerry.com: Fight the veto

He's not a candidate? We'll see. He certainly seems to be acting like one...

Please feel free to e-mail me at ohiorenee(at)gmail.com if you see a post on a candidate blog that might be of general interest. A lot of us are not ready to support a candidate just yet, and don't care to be added to yet another mailing list, but, as politically active and aware citizens, would like to be kept up to date nonetheless.

Kerry on supporting Nancy Pelosi

From John Kerry's blog:

We Democrats should’ve been unapologetic this week defending Speaker Pelosi because the truth was on our side: She had a right to go. And she was right to go. The coordinated attack on her trip to Syria was as inappropriate as it was irresponsible. And when that happens to a Democrat, we should all damn well stand up and be counted in our support, or else we hand partisan hacks on the other side a dangerous victory. They thrive on destroying our leaders -– we can’t let them. Especially when we’ve got the moral high ground.

If someone asks you about Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Damascus, you might want to start by telling them how many Republicans have traveled to Syria. That Arlen Specter has gone 16 times since 1984. Yes, this Republican outrage is selective. I didn’t hear a whiff of criticism when a Republican Congressional delegation was in Damascus just last weekend. Calculated crocodile tears for political gain -– sad but not surprising.

But, even more than that, we need to stand up to this effort to demonize diplomacy. We shouldn’t be surprised that an Administration that treats dialogue as a reward rather than a process would stoop to this. But, as Americans, we need to stand up and demand better from our elected leaders.

I was never the biggest Kerry supporter, but was one of those people who voted for him because he "sucked less than Bush". But with politicians, as with kids, I think it's important to "catch them being good"--praising the behavior we'd like to see more of. So I'm going to try to do that.
