Sarah Palin's Final Solution For Witches

I think Sarah Palin's stance on feminism hearkens back to the Dark Ages. After watching way too many of her pastor's video tapes, and those that Palin appeared in herself, it is a theology that maintains female subservience to a male. In this case, it is "Jesus." All actions and ideas must be seen though the lens Christian Evangelical Fundamentalism where straying from the path and making decisions on your own without the benefit of celestial guidance, is frowned upon at best, Malleus Maleficarum at worst.

It seems that the culture she lives in has no room for the philosophy of a "managed uterus." If you get pregnant, tough shit, you carry the child of your lover. If you are raped, tough shit, you will carry the child of your rapist. As a special little gift to those rape victims, under Palin, the victim is charged for the forensics rape evidence collection kit and we can't even get her to give an opinion on emergency contraception.

Which brings us to witches. Throughout history, when women have exerted their power and influence, the male dominated society beat them down, tortured them, burned them alive and last but not least, outright murder. Being a witch, and by expansion here I include Wicca or any form of Goddess worship, it is the biggest slap in the face to Christian Fundamentalism, truly going against God.

The women, and like-minded men, who believe in equality for women are an enemy that must be dealt with - a group where murder in the middle of the night by mobs of thugs is preferable. A quick Google Search for Witchcraft and Africa yielded a story today of Eleven dead in Congo football riot after use of 'witchcraft.'

But this is not news, we have known for a long time that Palin and her ilk are hypocrites.

Say Good-Bye to Red America

Howard Dean was of course correct when he said America was really shades of maroon. His 50 State Strategy was specifically designed to nudged the maroon in all states a few shades closer to blue... and I believe that is working.

All across the spectrum we see this happening. The long string of losses for Republicans in special elections I think is a sign of things to come.

So things were looking up for the election, especially when a state like Iowa elects a Black man named Hussein to the Iowa Caucus. Earthquake. My friends, that was a tectonic shattering quake.

Then, as if we were all kissed on the mouth, the Libertarian Party up and elects Bob Barr as their Presidential nominee. Barr, if you remember, is the guy who tried to get soldiers practicing Wicca kicked out of the military among a plethora of wrong-headed nonsense. One of the LP delegation took the stage after the first ballot and schooled the crowd about what it says about them when they have someone like Barr as their top of the ticket, "what is wrong with us?"

After the sixth ballot, Barr won. Yes, I watched the whole thing on CSPAN - with absolute attention paid to the TV. For PoliGeeks like me, it doesn't get any better than this.

Barr will do nothing but help progressives in the 2008 general election. The Repubs that are not in love with McCain will have another place to punch their ballot and thank God for it.

Hell, I am going to put a Bob Barr ad on my website! Cause if this was a kiss in the mouth to progressives, baby, I am Frenching!

SPECIAL REQUEST FOR TCD FANS: The San Francisco Chronicle is pondering the addition of new cartoons for their paper - a process that seems to be initiated by Darren Bell, creator of Candorville (one of my daily reads - highly recommended). You can read the Chronicle article here and please add your thoughts to the comments if you wish. If anything, put in a good word for Darren and Candorville.

I am submitting Town Called Dobson to the paper for their consideration. They seem to have given great weight to receiving 200 messages considering Candorville. I am asking TCD fans to try to surpass that amount. (I get more than that many hate mails a day, surely fans can do better?)

This is not a race between Darren and I, it is a hope that more progressive strips can be represented in the printed press of America.

So if you read the San Francisco Chronicle or live in the Bay Area (Google Analytics tell me there are a lot of you), please send your kind comments (or naked, straining outrage) to David Wiegand at his published addresses below. If you are a subscriber, cut out your mailing label and staple it to a TCD strip and include it in your letter.

Freedom requires religion, just as religion requires freedom. Freedom opens the windows of the soul so that man can discover his most profound beliefs and commune with God. Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone... - Mitt Romney

Let me get this straight, cause you know, we Neo-Pagan Slacker Buddhists, are slow on the uptake sometimes. Our current President is supported by the most fervent religious group in America, the Fundamentalist Christians, and we have seen the GREATEST EROSION of civil liberties and freedoms since the founding of the nation. But somehow, we cannot have freedom unless we have religion? If we converted all those fundies to tree-hugging Wiccans, the nation would probably be better off. At least then we could say "good-bye" to the Fred Phelps of the world.

Ya know Mitt, there are first-world countries out there that have a LOT MORE freedom, than the citizens of the United States, who do not have forced or coerced religion or 24/7 Bible-thumping. How can that be? As one of the officials in the Church of England recently commented, many parts of England have gone completely Pagan. England seems to be free. Germany has a great number of Atheists and they too are on the freedom train.

The truth, Mitt, is this - religion doesn't have jack-shit to do with freedom, in fact, religion has been one of the leading cause of oppression in world history. Many of your positions are religiously based (on your narrow belief structure). You want to have legislative control of my wife's uterus - YOU want to tell her what she can and cannot do with you own reproductive organs. I really wish you would put my wife's vagina out of your mind. Please.

Then there is the issue of Gay marriage. You somehow believe two girls kissing is the end of Western Civilization. I would give anything to have a Lesbian couple move in next door instead of the toothless redneck that lives there now.

A special note to my toothless neighbor and his infant, Baby Toothless, please stay off my lawn and for crying out loud, stop coming over and asking to borrow stuff. NO, you cannot borrow my tools... or gasoline and for God's sake, I really don't even want to know what you were doing when you come over a asked to borrow some butter and rope!
